Volunteer Levels
Volunteers will undergo training each season and be certified to perform one of the following duties (general description positions are based upon availability):
Level 1 Volunteer
Car Host – responsible for safety of passengers, assigned to individual cars and provides information regarding the excursion to passengers
Level 2 Volunteer
Trainman – works under supervision of conductor to prepare the train for departure, load and unload passengers, and, with the Engineer, operates the train on a scheduled or special excursion trip. Must complete one season as Car Host to qualify for Trainman.
Level 3 Volunteer
Conductor – is responsible for preparing the train for departure, securing the train at the end of the trip, safely loading and unloading passengers and crew, and, with the Engineer, the safe and timely operation of train. Must complete at least 30 trips as Trainman to qualify for Conductor.
All volunteers are required to participate on minimum of 10 events during the season to remain active.
Additional qualifications may be required for positions that may include, but not limited to:
- lifting 50 pounds
- easily board and unboard train
- attend and pass required training.
